Two more probate court judges in Georgia have tested positive for COVID-19, bringing the state’s total infected to 17.
An early work of world-renowned folk artist Rev. Howard Finster will be auctioned in the upcoming days and proceeds from that auction will benefit a Chattooga County church.
Due to the COVID-19 outbreak in Walker County Schools, the system will be closed all next week, Monday through Friday. The following week is Thanksgiving break, so schools will be out for two weeks straight.
On Friday, Chattooga County School Superintendent Jared Hosmer announced that the sixth graders at Summerville Middle School would start virtual learning on Tuesday of next week after the entire sixth grade staff at Summerville Middle School was forced to quarantine after being exposed to COVID-19.
The sixth grade teaching staff of Summerville Middle School had an exposure to COVID-19 and the entire staff is now in quarantine. Because of this, the sixth grade students at Summerville Middle School will have distance learning days starting next Tuesday. The distance learning is only for the sixth grade students at SMS and does not affect the seventh or eighth grades. Both local high school football teams will be on the road this evening. The Chattooga Indians will be taking on Pepperell and the Trion Bulldogs will be traveling to Mt. Zion in Carrollton.
North Georgia EMC says that they have recently received word about a scam where someone claims to be a North Georgia EMC employee and asks to come inside people’s homes to “check out” their utilities.
Former correctional officer Michael L. Jones, a resident of Chattooga County, pleaded guilty to accepting bribes to provide prison inmates with methamphetamine, marijuana, and tobacco, all of which were destined to be smuggled into Floyd County Correctional Institution (“FCCI”) in Rome, Georgia.
The 2020 Presidential Election isn’t over in Georgia. Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger has ordered all ballots in Georgia to be recounted and that includes the ballots cast in Chattooga County.
