Lumina Coffee Co., an independent coffee shop by the father-and-son team of Mike and Matt Schieffer at 640 E. Braves Blvd. just off the Bypass and adjacent to the new RiverPoint apartments as well as State Mutual Stadium, home of the Rome Braves.

As construction enters the final stages, the Schieffers simultaneously are working on building a staff. “The recruiting and hiring process for the Management, Team Leaders and Team Members have also begun. The Careers section of the new website will guide potential candidates through the hiring process. Lumina Coffee Co. expects to create 40 new positions, with an underlying hope to further stimulate the local economy.” Or click here.

Lumina launched its website earlier this week, along with its social media accounts on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Lumina will be open from 6 AM until 10 PM Monday through Saturday, and closed on Sundays. The coffee shop includes 65 seats inside, another 24 seats outside and will have a drive-through lane.

One person was taken to Floyd-Cherokee Medical Center after his powered paraglider crashed into Weiss Lake in Leesburg on Thursday afternoon.

A Hairlake Road, Summerville woman reported that  her mailbox had been smashed Saturday afternoon.

According to reports from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Department, Jennifer Gilreath informed a responding deputy that someone had struck her mail box.

Gilreath requested that a report be entered.

Summerville man Billy Wade recently reported to city police that he heard a car crash into his wooden fence.

Mr. Wade told police that on Monday night, while sitting inside his residence on Northern Heights Circle,  he heard a loud noise outside.

“Mr. Wade stated that when he walked outside, he observed where a small, blue in color, passenger car, had crashed into his wooden fence.”

Wade continued, stating that the vehicle fled the scene before he could catch the license plate number.

The responding officer recorded damage to the fence. There are currently no possible suspects in the case.

On Thursday, December 6th, Summerville Main Street will be hosting a “Best Dressed Elf” Competition at J.R. “Dick” Dowdy Park.

The competition is open to all elementary school-aged children. The winner will receive a trophy and get to do the honors of officially lighting the park Christmas tree.

Registration will be held at the park’s small gazebo from 6-6:30 PM. Judging is scheduled for 6:45 PM, followed by the tree lighting ceremony at 7:00.
