Rome police, Rome-Floyd County firefighters, Floyd EMS and Georgia State Patrol troopers spent a fruitless hour Monday night searching the Norfolk Southern railroad tracks after a report of someone hit by a train.

No one was found.

The search was the second in two nights in the area of North Broad and Callahan streets.

According to Rome police officer Ethan Carpenter:

A call came in to 911 from the train’s engineer, saying it appeared that someone had been on the tracks and was hit.

A number of first responders searched the area but the only thing they found was a bag with loaves of bread and a recently opened can of beer.

Carpenter speculated that a person may have just gotten too close to the train while it was moving.
