A man recently released after serving 20 years in prison was arrested Wednesday for driving without a valid license. French Johnson, of a Trion Teloga Road, Summerville address, was stopped in a road check on Penn Bridge Road on Wednesday. When Johnson came through the road check he reportedly told Chattooga County Sheriff's Deputies that he didn't have a valid driver's license or valid insurance on the 1996 Saturn he was driving. Officers verified that he didn't have a license but the vehicle did have valid insurance coverage, even though the registration had been cancelled. French told officers that he had just gotten out of prison after serving a 20-year sentence and had never had a valid driver's license. Johnson was arrested at about 11 p.m. Wednesday He was charged with driving without a valid license/expired license; and having suspended/ cancelled registration. He was transported to the Chattooga County jail without incident.
