A strong thunderstorm that barreled through Cherokee County, Alabama on Sunday afternoon brought with it a significant amount of cloud to ground lightning – leaving in its wake a structure that was destroyed on County Road 129.
County Road 129 is located just south of the Chattooga County line near Friendship Baptist Church and Berea Church of Christ.
According to reports, at approximately 3:25 a barn was struck by lightning, causing it to catch fire. The barn was considered a total loss, fortunately there were no injuries associated with the incident.
Broomtown firefighters and other emergency personnel responded to the scene.
