Baseball Hall of Famer and FOX MLB analyst John Smoltz will deliver the keynote address at Shorter University’s 2025 President’s Gala, a fundraising event benefiting student scholarships. The announcement was made on April 15th during Shorter University’s #SUForward Night at the Rome Emperors baseball game. The Gala will take place on Thursday, December 4th, and promises an evening of dinner, entertainment, and a special address from the celebrated pitcher.

Smoltz, a first-ballot Hall of Fame inductee, boasts a legendary 21-season career in Major League Baseball, primarily with the Atlanta Braves. He is the only pitcher in MLB history to achieve the remarkable feat of recording both 200 wins and 150 saves. A key member of the Braves’ dominant rotation during their reign in the 1990s and early 2000s, Smoltz played a crucial role in securing 14 division titles, five National League pennants, and the 1995 World Series championship. Beyond his athletic achievements, Smoltz continues to inspire through his broadcasting work and dedication to community service.
