BBQ, Stew, Chili Cookoff Saturday
The Barbecue, Stew and Chili Cookoff is Saturday.
The cookoff is a benefit for The Well, a local shelter for homeless women. According to shelter Director Roxie Weesner, funds from the event will be used for general operating expenses at the shelter. The cookoff is The Well's biggest fundraiser of the year.
So far, there are 12 vendors set up to compete in the barbecue competition; three in stew and four in chili. First, second and third place prizes will be awarded by a panel of judges in all three categories with the first place barbecue winner receiving a trophy. Prizes of $50 to $100 will be awarded in all categories. A People's Choice award will also be named in the barbecue category. Chattooga Countians are asked to come out and cast their vote/
13 vendors will also be on hand with arts and crafts and other foods.
There will also be two drawings for $100. The event is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Dowdy Park. All winners will be announced at 4 p.m.
The event is part of the Steam into Summerville Railroad Days 2012 that continues through the first week of November. About 175 passengers are expected to travel from Chattanooga to Summerville by steam engine for the event.
