Speaking with AM 1180, Summerville City Council Seat #1 candidate Betty Brady said that she is deeply concerned about the declining trend in the number of houses in the city limits.

“One of the things closest to my heart is the housing industry here in Summerville”.

Brady said that in the past decade, only five new homes have been constructed in city limits. Given that  homes are demolished or become irreparable almost every year, the overall trend is toward fewer livable houses in the city.

Brady says she gets multiple calls every week at her work in real estate with potential customers looking for rental properties, and “there’s no place to send them”. She says that she wants to communicate with the private sector to explore building an apartment complex in Summerville and pushing more aggressively for demolition or renovation on unlivable properties.
