A bicyclist died Sunday morning after suffering a medical emergency and crashing on a walking trail behind the Marriott Hotel in downtown Rome, authorities confirmed. No foul play is suspected in the incident, which occurred around 10:43 a.m.

Rome and Floyd County emergency personnel responded swiftly to 911 calls reporting a medical emergency involving a male bicyclist who had reportedly wrecked and was not breathing. Bystanders initiated CPR, with first responders taking over lifesaving efforts upon arrival. The individual was then transported by EMS for continued medical care.

Despite these efforts, the male subject was later pronounced deceased.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing and is being conducted in coordination with the Floyd County Coroner’s Office. Authorities are withholding the identity of the deceased pending official notification of next of kin.

“Our hearts go out to the loved ones affected by this sudden loss,” stated Kelly Madden, Public Information Officer for the Rome Police Department. “We appreciate the quick action of the initial witness and first responders who did everything they could.”
