Chattooga County and surrounding areas got a little more than snow flurries in some areas last night and that has prompted the National Weather Service to issue a Special Weather Statement telling motorists to be cautious of black ice this morning.  There were some icy spots being reported overnight on secondary roads, however all roads are passable.  Still, you will want to use caution and be on the lookout for icy patches, especially on bridges and overpasses and in the higher elevations.  There was no significant accumulation of snow or ice, and the wind gusting overnight to 12-15 mph has helped dry out the roads.  The main factor this morning is the bitterly cold air and wind.  We are having reports of temperatures in the mid teens to low 20’s and the wind is around 10 mph – giving us wind chill factors in the single digits.
