Visitors ringing in the New Year at James H. “Sloppy” Floyd State Park are invited to stay for a traditional Southern meal after their hike. The Friends of James H. “Sloppy” Floyd State Park will host a Black-Eyed Pea Luncheon on January 1, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Picnic Shelter 4.
The luncheon follows the park’s annual First Day Hike, led by park rangers, giving participants a chance to enjoy both outdoor recreation and a warm community meal. The menu will include black-eyed peas, cornbread, greens, and rice, a New Year’s tradition symbolizing good luck and prosperity.
A $10 park pass is required for entry. For additional information, attendees may contact the park office at 706-857-0826.
