Blood Assurance is making an urgent appeal to Chattooga County residents to donate blood as the region enters the “100 Deadliest Days of Summer,” a period known for a surge in trauma-related injuries and a critical need for blood.

The organization, the primary blood provider for Atrium Health Floyd and AdventHealth Redmond in Rome, is facing increased demand and is calling on residents to help maintain a stable blood supply. The period between Memorial Day and Labor Day typically sees a dramatic increase in traffic accidents and recreation-related injuries, leading to a heightened need for blood transfusions. To encourage participation, Blood Assurance is offering a $20 e-gift card to all donors throughout June. O-negative and AB plasma donors will receive an even greater incentive of $25.

Blood Assurance will be hosting a blood drive in Chattooga County on Friday, June 6th, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at 170 Farrar Dr., Summerville, GA 30747. Eligible donors must be at least 17 years old (or 16 with parental consent), weigh a minimum of 110 pounds, and be in good overall health. Donors are advised to stay well-hydrated and eat a nutritious meal before donating. “A single blood donation can save up to three lives,” a Blood Assurance spokesperson emphasized. “This is a vital opportunity to contribute directly to the health and safety of our community.”

To ensure adequate staffing and a smooth donation process, potential donors are strongly encouraged to schedule their appointment in advance by visiting www.bloodassurance.org/ch6th.
