Residents across Chattooga County are being encouraged to help save lives by donating blood at an upcoming Blood Assurance Blood Drive later this month.

The blood drive will take place on Friday, January 30, from 12:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at the Chattooga County E-911 Center, located at 170 Farrar Drive in Summerville. The drive is being held in partnership with Blood Assurance, a regional nonprofit blood center serving local hospitals.

As part of National Blood Donor Month, donors who give blood during January will receive their choice of a burgundy or cream blanket, while supplies last.

Organizers remind donors to eat a good meal beforehand, drink extra water, avoid energy drinks, and bring a valid ID to the appointment. Walk-ins may be accepted as time allows, but advance sign-ups are encouraged through Blood Assurance’s website.

Blood Assurance officials say local donations stay local, helping area hospitals maintain a reliable blood supply for emergencies, surgeries, and ongoing patient care.
