AM 1180 Chattooga County Radio spoke with Sheriff John Everett moments shortly before 10 this morning about the body that was found in the Tate Road area.

Sheriff Everett confirmed that the body was that of 14 year old Nikoles Osley.  The Sheriff said that the body was recovered not long after daylight this morning.

According to the sheriff, Osley and another 13 year old boy saw a Jeep stranded in the flood waters yesterday and dove into the water towards the Jeep before Osley’s mother could stop them.  The youngest child was rescued rather quickly, but the older child was swept away in the flood waters.

Everett said that resuce efforts last night were hampered due to the darkness and that searchers were looking in the area the mother thought she last saw the boy in.  In fact the boy was closer to where rescue workers were parked than orginally thought.  Sheriff Everett said that there was some thick corn stalks in the area that also hampered the rescue workers from seeing the body last night.

The family of the boy was notified shortly after nine this morning.

The confirmed death of the boy makes the 7th death state wide in Georgia from the flood waters.
