The Centre Wal-Mart was evacuated shortly after 8:00 Monday night, after a bomb threat had been called in to the store.
According to sources, a disgruntled customer had allegedly been in a confrontation with one of the Wal-Mart service representatives over the telephone, with the individual ending the conversation by saying a bomb was set to go off in the store, within 15 minutes.
Authorities immediately responded to the scene, and after making sure that everyone was out of the building, conducted an extensive search before declaring the facility to be clear of any explosive devices.
Those responding to the scene included the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, the Centre, Cedar Bluff and Leesburg Police Departments, the Centre Fire Department, Alabama State Troopers and the ABI.
