As of Friday afternoon, Chattooga County Investigator Matt Hayes was still in the Dekalb County Jail. A bond hearing had not been held, according to officials at the jail. However a bond hearing must be held within 72 hours of Hayes’s arrest.

The Sheriff's Department Investigator was arrested Thursday night on charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug related objects. He is alleged to have pulled a gun on two people in DeKalb County Alabama and is reported to have had suspected cocaine and hydrocodone in his possession when arrested in his Sheriff's Department vehicle.

Officials are concerned those drugs came from the sheriff's department's evidence room. Not only is Hayes an investigator for the Sheriff's Department but he is also the evidence custodian.

The Sheriff was expected to have asked the GBI to help out in the investigation. No word yet on if that has happened. When AM1180 went by the Sheriff's Office Friday morning, the Sheriff was behind closed doors with his Drug Task Force Officers, according to office personnel. AM1180 was told by his secretary that he said he would get with us later that day. That didn't happen. Phone calls to the Sheriff were not returned by 5:45 Friday afternoon.
