History was made last Thursday when the Chattooga Board of Education elected the first female Chair and Vice Chair in the board’s history.  Lori Brady, who represents Menlo on the Chattooga Board of Education was elected chair and replaces current chair Eddie Elsberry.  Tiffany Lawrence, who represents the Pennville seat on the board, was elected vice-chair and replaces B.J. Montgomery.

In other action at the meeting last Thursday, the board recognized the countywide spelling bee winners.  The board also recognized Lyerly Elementary School and Leroy Massey Elementary School for being named Literacy Leaders by Georgia School Supt. Richard Woods.  Both schools received the designation because 15% or more of their 3^rd grade students showed growth from 2021-22 to 2022-23 on the Milestones.

The Chattooga County Board of Education’s current members are Eddie Elsberry, B.J. Montgomery, Lori Brady, Tiffany Lawrence and Bonnie Fletcher.
