Summerville Police were able to recover tools stolen from a Summerville auto repair shop after the burglar who was accused of taking the tools posted the stolen goods on Facebook Marketplace.

David Fletcher, the owner of the repair shop, informed police that the tools had been stolen from his business on January 12th and that one of his employees saw the tools posted on Facebook by a man identified as Michael Steven Amerson.

Detectives were able to make contact with Amerson and arrange to meet with Amerson.  Amerson believed he was meeting with someone to purchase the tools, and met the detectives near the Scout Hut in Summerville.  When police identified themselves, Amerson attempted to run, but was apprehended and was taken to jail on burglary charges.

The owner of the tools identified them as the ones stolen from his business.

Amerson reportedly told police that they could question him about the tools – but he wouldn’t answer any of their questions.  Amerson also told police that the tools were his deceased grandfather’s and were rightfully his.

In addition to burglary charges, Amerson was charged with obstruction of law enforcement officers.
