For several generations, children in Chattooga County have embraced the spirit of community and faith at Camp Hamby, a beloved day camp operated by local United Methodist Churches.

Founded in 1968, Camp Hamby has been a sanctuary for children to grow in their understanding of Jesus while engaging in a variety of fun activities. From arts and crafts to nature exploration and Bible studies, the camp offers a well-rounded program that nurtures both creativity and spiritual growth. The camp’s history is rooted in generosity; Hugh Hamby, a dedicated member of Menlo United Methodist Church, graciously donated 9.4 acres of land to establish the camp.

Since its inception, Camp Hamby has expanded significantly, evolving from serving just 38 children in 1981 to reaching approximately 300 children today. This growth is a testament to the camp’s welcoming atmosphere and commitment to fostering young minds. Importantly, Camp Hamby is open to children of all denominations, making it a diverse space for kids to learn, play, and build lasting friendships.

This year, Camp Hamby will take place from June 9-13 and June 16-20, welcoming children aged 5 to 11, spanning upcoming grades from kindergarten through sixth grade. Registration for this enriching experience will begin in April, promising another summer filled with joy and learning.
