It’s a summer tradition that many adults remember from their childhood growing up in Chattooga County – summer day camps at Camp Hamby.  The camp, operated by the county’s Methodist Churches, is situated in a picturesque valley near the foot of Lookout Mountain and has been a tradition for several generations of children.

The camp got its start in 1968 thanks to Mr. Hugh Hamby, a member of Menlo United Methodist Church.  Mr. Hamby deeded almost 10 acres to the Rome District of the United Methodist Church to be used as a Christian camp for children.  By 1983, the camp had grown to 15 acres and includes a chapel and excellent facilities.

Hundreds of volunteers have made sure that Camp Hamby’s tradition of teaching children about Jesus and providing summer fun continues.
