A child was hit by an unoccupied vehicle Tuesday morning on Larkspur Lane off Shorter Avenue in West Rome.
According to Rome Police, the mother had put her 7-year old in the vehicle and had gone back inside the home to get something.
The child climbed from the back seat to the driver’s seat, started the engine and put the vehicle in reverse, backing out of the driveway. The vehicle stopped, but the child put it in neutral and it began to roll toward Alma Drive.
TheThe 7-year old apparently tried to stop the rolling vehicle by pushing it and was run over. He was conscious and alert when EMS arrived on the scene. He was transported to Scottish Rite in Atlanta for treatment.
Fortunately, his injuries are not considered life-threatening. The incident occurred at around 6:53 a.m. Tuesday.
