Study Site for Standardized Tests

For a limited time students now have one more way to prepare for state standardized tests. A trial version of a new online study program called Links to Learning provides an outlet for students to practice for the big test. The Links to Learning program is an online resource where students can take practice Georgia High School Graduation tests, CRCT tests and Georgia End of Course Tests free of charge. Tests and quizzes are graded immediately and they provide correct answers so sutdents are able to see where they need more practice. The site also includes explanations and web resources for each question. The Links to Learning curriculum section is aligned with the Georgia Performance Standards (GPS) and links you to websites that cover each topic on a grade appropriate level.

School Council Meeting

CHS Makes AYP!

Chattooga High School students, faculty and staff have something to shout about! CHS has met Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) for the 2010 school year!  Principal Jimmy Lenderman was informed on over the weekend by Mary Ann Lasseter, a representative from the Georgia Department of Education, that CHS has made Adequate Yearly Progress or AYP.  AYP serves as the annual measure of student achievement by the state of Georgia. It is the cornerstone of the 2001 No Child Left Behind Act. In other words, AYP is the holy grail of academic accomplishments for school systems in Georgia. For high schools, student achievement is measured using the Georgia High School Graduation Test (GHSGT) and the Georgia Alternate Assessment (GAA) for the most severely cognitively impaired students to determine a school’s progress.

Principal Lenderman sent out an email to CHS staff members on Sunday evening congratulating them on their great gain. He expressed his gratitude for their hard work and dedication by stating, “There are no words in our language that can tell you how I feel about all of you. Thank you all for what you do not only for CHS, but for our county!  ‘One Tribe’ ‘One People’ ‘One Chattooga’.” There will surely be a great celebration in the Tribe this week and for many weeks to come. This accomplishment is an enormous conquest for Chattooga High School. This triumph further enforces the motto implemented last year by Lenderman that states “We Expect Success.” Lenderman often reminds CHS Indians that they will be the best school in the nation and today, Chattooga High School is one colossal movement closer to reaching that goal.

As a CHS teacher I can attest to the enormous effort made to reach this goal by students, teachers, administration, parents and other staff at the high school. It’s exhilarating to see hard work pay off.  If you see a CHS student, teacher, administrator or other staff member, take time to congratulate them on their achievement.

FBLA Collecting Eyeglasses, Toiletry Items, Children’s Books and Used Cell Phones

The CHS Future Business Leaders of America are sponsoring several different charity drives that they want you to be a part of. These drives will help the needs of many different people across the world. The drives are: Collecting prescription eyeglasses, cell phones, children’s books and toiletry items.

The eyeglasses collection is in conjunction with the Menlo Lions Club. The club will be refurbishing the glasses and sending them to someone with a need for new spectacles. Any cell phones and accessories that are collected are sent to a central location and either refurbished and sold or broken down into parts. Profits from this collection are used to distribute international calling cards for soldiers. Children’s books that are collected will be sent to various medical facilities where children wait. Also, any toiletry items and household products will be sent to the Crisis Center for Domestic Abuse.

Please help these students out and drop off any donations by the CHS front office Tuesday – Friday from 8am until 4pm.

HOSA Students Raising Money for Alzheimer’s Association

HOSA students will be participating in the Alzheimer’s Memory Walk at Berry College on Saturday, September 18. They have placed donation jars in the front office at CHS and in the vocational office to help them meet their $500 goal. All of the money will be donated to the Alzheimer’s Foundation to be used for research.  Alzheimer’s Disease is one of the most devastating diseases I have ever seen.
