The Living with Vision Loss Support Group will be meeting next week on Thursday, November 15, 2018.  The meeting is for everyone of any age whose vision loss cannot be corrected with typical glasses as well as Seniors or anyone who has Age Related Macular Degeneration , Diabetes, or Glaucoma.  The meeting will take place at 2:30 PM at Oak View Health and Rehabilitation.  There will be fun, fellowship and resources to assist people with vision loss. If you need more information about vision loss and services, please phone Marsha Farrow 706-859-2624 or Oakview at 706-857-4761 for directions

The City of Summerville’s annual Christmas in the Park celebration will be held Thursday, December 6th from 6 PM until 9 PM. The public is invited to visit Dowdy Park for this free even to see the park come alive with holiday cheer.

Santa will arrive at the Summerville Depot at 6:30 PM to visit and offer free photos with children. The tree-lighting ceremony is scheduled for 7 PM.

Live entertainment, contests, free food, hayrides and a bonfire will highlight the event. Free tours of the Couey House will be given by members of the Chattooga County Historical Society.

The 2018 City of Summerville Christmas Parade, to be held on Monday, December 3, at 7:00 p.m. This year’s parade theme is “A Small Town Christmas”.

On Saturday, November 10th, the Veterans Memorial Dedication will be held at the Summerville Veterans Park at Dowdy Park.  There will be a program of patriotic music and the Post 5 Honor Guard will also be part of the program.  According to the Veterans Committee, nineteen new memorials will be added to the park, bringing the total to 660.  The program starts at 11 AM.

The Trion Masonic Lodge #160 will be having a Fundraiser this weekend Saturday November 10th.  Starting at 10 AM, they will be selling Brunswick Stew for $7 a quart or $26 a gallon.  The lodge is located on 7th Street behind the East Trion Church of God.

Train enthusiast of all ages will enjoy the Trains and Tracks Expo at the Summerville Depot November 10-11. Expo hours of operation are: Saturday, November 10 from 10 AM-3 PM and Sunday, November 11 from 11 AM-3 PM. Sunday’s train arrival will feature a double steam engine arrival. A highlight for the event will be the Chattanooga Modular Modeler Train exhibit. The expo is designed for children of all ages; for modelers, collectors, and enthusiasts; for families in search of good old-fashioned fun; and for the simply curious. It will feature tables of trains, accessories, scale models, and collectible toys. The Tennessee Valley Railroad Steam Engine is scheduled to arrive each day of the event at 12:45 pm with passengers and will be

turned on the Summerville Turntable, for the public’s viewing pleasure. There will be railroad memorabilia for sale, food and craft vendors at the depot, and much more.

The Chattanooga Modular Modelers, Inc. and The Museum of Flight are both non-profit corporations. The Chattanooga Modular Modelers use the hobby of model railroading to educate the public about the role the railroads have played in our nation’s history. They teach techniques for construction of portable displays. They also teach electronic principles used in modern devices, and how to display artistic expression through the mastery of the many skills necessary to complete a model railroad or diorama. The Museum of Flight uses the flight of historic aircraft to raise awareness of aviation while supporting local children’s hospitals.

A Veteran’s Day celebration will be held on November 11th by VFW Aux. Post 6688, VFW Post 6688, American Legion 129, and Sons of the American Legion 129. It will begin at 1:30 at the Chattooga County Memorial Home, 818 Memorial Drive, Summerville.
