There will be a BBQ sack-lunch fundraiser for the Chattooga Senior Center coming up this Friday, May 17th from 10 AM until 2 PM at the Fit Pit Parking lot in Summerville. The lunch will consist of a BBQ sandwich, bag of chips, pickle and a drink. The cost is $8 and all of the money raised goes to support the activities at the Chattooga Senior Center. There’s Hope For The Hungry will be distributing food at the South Summerville Baptist Church this Wednesday May 15th from 10am until 1pm. Food must be picked up in person.

Come out for an enjoyable night of music performed by Ted Scoggins and Dennis Brown at Center Post Community Center Saturday May 18, 2024 beginning at 7 PM EST. Admission is free and everyone is welcome to attend. They will have concessions available for purchase. The menu will consist of hotdog plates, soda, water, coffee and homemade desserts. The Friends of Sloppy Floyd State Park are inviting everyone out for an old fashioned Ice Cream Social, coming up on Saturday, May 25th. You can choose your favorite flavor of delicious, homemade ice cream for only $3 a cup. Credit and debit cards will be accepted. The Ice Cream Social is taking place from noon until 3 PM and will be held next to the park’s visitor center. Remember, a $5 park pass is required.
Summerville Main Street is hosting a Taste of the South Festival on June 22nd that will feature a special edition of the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum Steam Passenger Train. The train will be rolling in from Chattanooga to the Summerville Depot that afternoon. The public is welcome to come out and enjoy the arrival of the steam passenger train to the Historic Summerville Depot and enjoy live music while they sample Southern food dishes. The event will also feature local honey and flowers. The Taste of the South event will take place from 10 AM until 3 PM. More details about the event will be released in the upcoming days.
Jr. Ranger Camp is returning again this year to Sloppy Floyd State Park in Summerville. This year, the camp will be offered in two different sessions on June 13-14 and again July 8-9. For registration or information, you can call the park office at Sloppy Floyd State Park at 706-857-0826. Campers will have the opportunity to join park rangers for hands-on experience in outdoor skills such as archery, wayfinding and nature craft-making. Also, they will get the chance to go fishing and discover the diverse wildlife that can be found at Sloppy Floyd State Park. The event is for children ages 6 to 12 and takes place from 8:30 AM until 4 PM daily.
