The Chattooga County Historical Society will celebrate Black History Month at its regular membership meeting scheduled for 2 p.m. on Sunday, February 9th at the Oak Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Gore (see the sign just off US 27 near Hunter Furniture). According to Gene McGinnis, the group’s president, “This program will be very informative as we learn about Smith Knox, but will also be particularly entertaining.”
Chattooga County Schools will hold Kindergarten registration for the 2020-2021 school year on March 13th from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Chattooga Enrollment Center, located at 286 Maple Dr., Summerville, GA 30747. You can find all the information you need below:
The Chattooga County Chamber of Commerce is partnering with the Chattooga County Registrar Office to demonstrate the new voting machines. Demonstrations will be held on Monday’s as part of the Chamber’s “Jump Start Monday” Mobile Office Hours. The events will be held from 9 AM – 11 AM in Menlo, Summerville, Trion and Lyerly. Saturday, February 1st local Cub and Boy Scouts in Chatooga County distributed flyers asking for food donations to be taken to the local food bank. On Saturday, February 8th, the Scouts will be returning to those houses to pick up the food.

Chattooga High School will host Title I Family Science Night coming up on Thursday, February 27 from 4-6 PM. Come join in for hands-on STEM & Science activities for the whole family. They will have experiments and activities, Star Lab and door prizes! Star Lab will be set up at the gym. Sign-up for times when you arrive. Science Stations will be located in the cafeteria and select classrooms. Snacks will be provided!
Georgia Northwestern Technical College is sponsoring a Driver’s Education Class at the Chattooga Education Center (former Summerville Elementary School) next month. The class will be held February 11-14 from 8 AM until 4 PM. Registration for the class is February 4th from 10 AM – 1 PM and from 3 PM – 6 PM.
