The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) continues to expand its focus on developing accessible opportunities. The agency hosted its third adaptive hunt since 2021 this month. Five hunters and a hunting buddy were paired with a guide for the agency’s two-day Hunt and Learn experience on private property in Newton County.

A Menlo man has been sentence to six months in a detention center and ten-years probation after he pleaded guilty to exploitation and intimidation of an elderly family member.
According to previous reports, Christopher Chase Deberry was accused of grabbing an elderly, disabled family member’s arm and twisting it, causing it to bleed. Deberry had been banned from the home of the family member in the past. While Deberry was being processed at the Chattooga County Jail in connection with those charges, he was found to be in possession of drugs and was additionally charged with crossing the guard lines with drugs.
Deberry has a long history of arrests in Chattooga County.
He was indicted by the Chattooga County Grand Jury last October and was sentenced this month in Chattooga County Superior Court after pleading guilty to the charges.
The Trion Town Council will hold their first regular monthly meeting of 2024 next week. The workshop and council meeting will be held at 6 PM on Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at the town hall conference room. The workshop will be followed by the regular monthly meeting. Mayor Lanny Thomas says anyone with any questions, is welcome to contact him at Trion Town Hall. The public is invited to attend.
The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) has confirmed a case of measles in an unvaccinated resident of the metro Atlanta area. The individual was exposed to measles while traveling out of the country. DPH is working to identify anyone who may have had contact with the individual while they were infectious.
If you mail a lot of letters, you may want to buy up some “Forever Stamps” today or tomorrow. The US Postal Service says that starting this Sunday, January 21, 2024, the cost of a Forever Stamp will go up to 68 cents. Currently, the price is 66 cents. The last time there was an increase in the price of the Forever Stamp was in July of 2023 when the price jumped 3 cents from 63 cents to 66 cents. Forever Stamps can be used in perpetuity, no matter future price changes. There will be no change to the price for an additional ounce per letter, which will remain at 24 cents.
