The Summerville Police Department is investigating a burglary that was reported this week. According to police, the victim said someone broke through her back door on Jones Street on Sunday and stole over 5000 rounds of ammunition. The burglar also broke into a shed and stole a variety of tools. Police say that the perpetrator also ransacked the home. The incident was turned over to an investigator with the Summerville Police Department.
The Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) recently received the “Model Agency Award” for excellence in human resources from the Georgia Department of Administrative Services (DOAS) as part of its FY24 HR Assessment. The GDOL earned a high ranking in the “model compliance” (Tier I) category, which underscores the department’s comprehensive understanding of and compliance with human resources laws, regulations, rules, and best practices.
Additional information has been released regarding a two-vehicle wreck on Martha Berry Highway Tuesday that shut down the roadway between the north entrance of Berry College and the mall for nearly an hour.
Chattooga County Commissioner Blake Elsberry sent a notice out to media on Wednesday afternoon about a public meeting being held tomorrow (Friday) January 19th at 9 AM at his office. The commissioner says that the purpose of the meeting will include the establishment of a county hotel/motel tax and a resolution that would revoke the controversial 2022 Land Development Ordinance and replace it with a Subdivision Development Ordinance. Also, the commissioner will be announcing a resolution that would allow the county water department to enter into a contract with United Community Bank for remote check deposit. Judge Kristina Graham has announced her retirement from the bench of the Lookout Mountain Judicial Circuit and Chattooga County Superior Court. Judge Graham, originally appointed to the position by Governor Zell Miller, will not be seeking reelection this year and issued the following statement on Wednesday:
Summerville Police responded to a report about a hit and run accident on Saturday. Police spoke with Timothy McKee who said that he was stopped at the stop sign on Pink Dogwood Lane and a vehicle traveling behind him, struck his vehicle and the fled the scene. McKee said the truck was a light blue Ford Ranger with a white male driving. The truck had no tag. McKee told police that the truck turned onto Highway 114. However, police said that there is no stop sign on Pink Dogwood Lane where it intersects with College Street and that if McKee had been driving that way, he would have had to have been driving the wrong way on a one-way street. Police said that there was damage to the left side of the rear bumper of the 2014 Chrysler Town & Country car that McKee was driving, but made no determination in the report about how the damage was caused.

The City of Summerville has worked countless hours pulling resources to offer a warming station for those in need during this week’s winter weather event. The winter weather event is now moving past our area at this time. The windchill advisory will expire at 10:00 a.m. today, Wednesday, January 17, 2024. We will see low temperatures again tonight so the facility will remain open until 8 a.m., Thursday January 18, 2024. Temperatures will rise to the 40’s during the day and we will be under normal winter weather conditions at that time.
The warming station will be closed to the public on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at 8 a.m.
