For many years, the sale of “real” Christmas trees was a booming business in the United States. Even locally here in Chattooga County, there would be several retailers offering the option of a real tree for the holiday season, along with some roadside pop-up Christmas tree stands. Those searching for a real Christmas tree this year found them harder to come by locally.
The Salvation Army in Rome serves our area with help at Christmastime and throughout the year. The local post of the Salvation Army serves Floyd, Polk and Chattooga Counties. Every year, bell ringers are outside area retail stores collecting money in the famous “red kettles”. As of the day before Christmas eve, Salvation Army in Rome had raised over $60,000 in the three-county region.

The Alpine Church live nativity is perhaps one of the best live nativities in North Georgia. The annual event has been going on at the rural church, located just south of Menlo for over three decades. Live animals are featured in the nativity and the historic Alpine Church is decorated for the Holidays. There is no cost to attend and the members of Alpine Church invite everyone to come and enjoy the true meaning of Christmas. The live nativity will be from 7 PM until 9 PM tonight and tomorrow. The church is located at 1115 Georgia Highway 337, just south of Menlo School.
A Trion church is offering a Christmas lunch on Christmas Day. Tomorrow, at 1 PM, anyone who would like to come enjoy lunch on Christmas Day is welcome to come to Central Avenue Baptist Church for a free meal. The church is located at 14074 Highway 27 in Trion.
