Georgia Northwestern Technical College has been named Georgia’s first National Coalition of Certification Centers Leadership School.
Summerville Police were called to an Old Mill Road address on Thursday about a rock that had been thrown through an office window. The complainant told police when she arrived to do some work at 150 Old Mill Road, she discovered a broken window and rock was in the floor of the office building. The complainant also reported seeing a green Honda with rust spots in the parking lot adjacent to the business. The Honda left the scene when the woman arrived to work. The owner of the business asked that a report be on file about the incident.
Chattooga County is one of six rural Georgia counties that is being targeted by UGA Cooperative Extension to address opioid misuse in rural communities.
Chattooga County Commissioner Blake Elsberry, along with the mayors from all four municipalities in the county, have extended the burn ban on outdoor burning until January 1, 2024. The commissioner’s office released a joint proclamation with Summerville Mayor Harry Harvey, Trion Mayor Lanny Thomas, Menlo Mayor Allen Keen and Lyerly Mayor Jim Ferguson on Friday.
The burn ban is due to current drought conditions in the county that are making it extremely hazardous to burn outdoors at this time. You can see the proclamation below:
The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) is urging Georgians to be cautious about eating pre-cut cantaloupe if they cannot verify its source. At least five people in Georgia have become infected with Salmonella likely due to eating the contaminated cantaloupe. Across the country, 117 people have also been sickened, nearly half requiring hospitalization.
The National Weather Service in Peachtree City, Georgia has issued a Dense Fog Advisory for Chattooga and surround counties until 9 AM this (Saturday) morning. Visibility of less than one mile can be expected. Slow down, use your headlights and leave plenty of distance between vehicles.

Summerville Police arrested a forty-two-year-old Summerville man earlier this week after a traffic stop. Police say that they observed the vehicle being driven by George Ware go over the fog line and fail to stop at a railroad crossing. Police made a traffic stop and when they spoke with Mr. Ware, they could smell marijuana coming from the vehicle. Ware admitted to having smoked marijuana earlier, but said he had not been smoking in the car. Police asked for consent to search and found marijuana, scales and a firearm inside the vehicle. Ware has been convicted of marijuana distribution in the past. He was jailed on multiple charges including, possession of marijuana, driving on suspended or revoked license, expired tag and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Ronald S. Zieve, the owner of Hair Restoration Specialists, Inc. (“HRS”), and Marshall Boyd, the co-director of HRS, have each pleaded guilty to one count of filing a false tax return. Since 2018, Zieve deliberately failed to report approximately $3.2 million in income, and Boyd deliberately failed to report approximately $790,000 in income.
The observance of Winter Weather Preparedness Week in Georgia is slated for December 4th through 8th. It is spearheaded by the Georgia Emergency Management/Homeland Security Agency, in partnership with the National Weather Service.
