The Trains & Tracks Expo continues today at the historic Summerville Depot.  The event, sponsored by Summerville Main Street, is free to the public.  Model train exhibits and more will be on display at the depot from 11 AM until 3 PM today.  The Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum Steam Passenger Train will be rolling into the depot at 1 PM this afternoon.  The City of Summerville is also celebrating the 20th anniversary of the installation of the steam engine turntable at Dowdy Park.  Everyone is invited to come out and enjoy the day at the historic Summerville Depot.

The GBI is investigating an officer involved shooting in Cartersville, Bartow County, Georgia.  The Cartersville Police Department asked the GBI to conduct an independent investigation on Thursday, November 2, 2023. Two people were shot during the incident. One is in critical condition; the other person was treated for a non-life-threatening injury and was released from the hospital.  No officers were injured in this incident.

A twenty-five-year-old man was arrested on Thursday of last week after a Summerville Police officer witnessed the suspect push a woman.  According to the Summerville Police Officer, the incident took place on Northwest Congress Street last Thursday night, shortly before midnight.  Police say that Kurtis Drake Crider “placed his hands on the victims mouth and began pushing them down”.  Crider was charged with disorderly conduct and was arrested and booked into the Chattooga County Jail.

Municipal Elections will be held on Tuesday of this week for contested races in the City of Menlo, the City of Summerville and the Town of Trion.

Once again this year, Chattooga County 4H will be hosting Breakfast with Santa.  Tickets are on sale now for the event that will be held on Saturday, December 10th from 8:30 AM until 10 AM.  No tickets will be sold at the door and adults and youth will need to tickets to enter.  Seating is limited to 200 tickets and the tickets cost $10.  All proceeds will benefit Chattooga 4H.  All photos taken at the event will be public on Facebook for personal access.   The event will be held at the Chattooga County Ag Center, located at 40 Middle School Road in Summerville.  If you have questions, or wish to purchase tickets, call 706-857-0744.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is looking for the next generation of DNR employees who will care for Georgia’s natural and cultural resources. This summer, DNR invites high school students to a week-long summer camp where students will have the opportunity to explore future career options, receive training and education, and make connections with current DNR employees.  Attendees will work alongside field professionals and receive hands-on training from game wardens, park managers, and wildlife, fisheries, and marine technicians while traveling across the state visiting wildlife management areas, state parks, fish hatcheries, historic sites, and Georgia’s coast.

It’s that time of the year again – time to change the time on your clock.  Twice a year, most people in the United States switch their clocks, even though a majority of Americans want the practice to stop.  While there was a bill that was passed by the U.S. Senate that would have done away with the time changes in the spring and fall, the bill was never passed by the U.S. House of Representatives.  So that means, before you go to bed tonight, you will need to set your clock back one hour so that you will be on Daylight Savings Time when you wake up on Sunday morning.  Officially, time changes at 2 AM on Sunday, November 5th.  Also, state fire officials are reminding residents to check the batteries in your fire alarms and smoke detectors.
