CBS presents “WILLIE NELSON’S 90TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION,” a concert special honoring the legendary career of music icon Willie Nelson, Sunday, Dec. 17 (8:30-10:30 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on demand for Paramount+)*. The news was announced during Nelson’s appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” on Thursday of this week.
An accident at Kirby Hollow Road and Highway 27 on Friday morning brought traffic coming over Taylor’s Ridge to a standstill. According to initial reports, a concrete truck ran off the road and into a power line. Crews had to be brought in to prop up the power lines with heavy machinery so the driver of the truck could be extricated. Traffic over the ridge was rerouted for several hours. By mid-afternoon, one lane of traffic was being allowed over the ridge, and by 4 PM, the highway was reopened. The accident knocked out power to around 450 people initially. Power was out a the WZQZ FM transmitter for most of the day on Friday. WZQZ was able to get back on the air around noon using a generator. As of late Friday evening, the Georgia State Patrol had not released an initial report on the accident. WZQZ will have more information once the preliminary report is issued by the Georgia State Patrol.

The Chattooga County School System is looking to fill multiple positions for fulltime and part-time bus drivers. Also substitute drivers are need. The positions are fulltime and benefits eligible. Today starting at 10 AM and going until 3 PM this afternoon, the Trains & Tracks Expo will be taking place at the historic Summerville Depot. Admission is free and open to anyone interested in model trains and for train enthusiasts. The Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum Steam Passenger Train will be rolling into the depot this afternoon around 1 PM. The Train Expo will feature tables of trains, accessories, scale models, free play with wooden kid’s train table and collectible toys. There will be railroad memorabilia for sale, food and craft vendors, and special exhibits and demonstrations. The event will also include a 20 Year Celebration of the Summerville Turntable. The expo will continue tomorrow from 11 AM until 3 PM.
For the first time in 20 years, the Trion Bulldogs are region champions! Trion defeats Darlington 42-14 en route to a region 7A championship and an undefeated record of 10-0 in the regular season for the first time since 1974 when the Bulldogs last captured the state championship. Sam R. McCain stadium was packed and LOUD.

The Trion Bulldogs are looking to capture their first region championship in 20 years tonight at Sam R. McCain Stadium in Trion. The Bulldogs are 9-0 are ranked 2nd in the state according to the AJC but the Darlington Tigers are the last obstacle standing between the Bulldogs and a region championship and the first undefeated regular season since the 1974 state championship team.
Tonight’s contest will be the 21st meeting between the two teams. In the 20 previous meetings, Trion has only defeated Darlington three times. The last time Trion beat Darlington was in 2009 which was the only home victory for the Bulldogs in the series. Trion also bested the Tigers in 1999 and 2003. However, when Trion does beat Darlington big things usually happen. Trion captured the region championship in 1999 and 2003 after beating Darlington on their home turf. Since 2009, Darlington has won 9 games in a row over the Bulldogs and this talented Trion team will be looking to break that streak tonight.
The Chattooga Indians season came to an end last week after a home victory over the Coosa Eagles. Chattooga has a bye week this week and did not qualify for postseason play.

A forty-eight-year-old woman was arrested on Wednesday night at an apartment house on Highway 48 in Summerville. According to Summerville Police, Kimberly Joyce Perry was in an argument with a man and was being “loud and boisterous” when she allegedly “caused bodily harm” to the man. Police arrested Perry and charged her with disorderly conduct and public intoxication. The argument took place in the common room of the apartment house.
