Summerville Police arrested a twenty-nine-year-old man on Monday of this week after a disturbance on Highway 48 in Summerville. According to police William Levi Ragland was “throwing objects and cursing” when they arrived on the scene. Ragland admitted to police that he had been drinking heavily and was arrested on charges of public intoxication and was booked into the Chattooga County Jail.
Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner John F. King urges all Georgians to change their smoke alarm batteries this weekend when they move their clocks back an hour to mark the end of Daylight Saving time.
AdventHealth will honor the community’s veterans by hosting a free Veterans Breakfast in Chatsworth at Bojangles and a Veterans Lunch in Calhoun and Rome at Chick-fil-A. All veterans and Patriot Guard members are invited to enjoy a free meal at the following locations on Friday, November 10th from 11 am to 2 pm in Calhoun and Rome and from 7 to 10 am in Chatsworth.
AAA-The Auto Club group advises drivers to be aware of risky driving habits with the end of daylight-saving time. Georgians will gain an hour of sleep but will face additional risks to their morning and evening commutes thanks to earlier sunrises and sunsets, which could cause a disruption to sleep cycles. AAA warns these combined factors can greatly increase the risks of car crashes in the coming weeks.
A thirty-four-year-old inmate at Hays State Prison in Chattooga County was charged by Georgia Department of Corrections Officials with aggravated assault and felony murder. Jequaski Rashad Whitehead, a native of Doughtery County, Georgia, was already serving multiple sentences for drug possession, false imprisonment, obstruction of law enforcement, attempted aggravated sodomy, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Whitehead was booked on the assault and murder charge by Department of Corrections officers on Tuesday morning of this week. WZQZ News has requested more information from the Georgia Department of Corrections on the current charges Whitehead is facing.
The 2023 Veterans Day Lunch is just days away, to be held on Friday, November 10th. All veterans are invited to have lunch together at 12 noon at the Chattooga County Courthouse. The lunch is sponsored by VFW Post 6688, United Community Bank, other businesses, and friends.
A twenty-year-old Alabama woman was arrested in Chattooga County on Sunday after a Chattooga County Sheriff’s Deputy clocked her vehicle doing 80 mph in a 55 mph speed zone. According to a report released by the sheriff’s office, the woman was clocked on Taylor’s Ridge and the deputy performed a traffic stop near Unity Church Road. While speaking with the woman, the deputy learned that her license had been suspended in Alabama and he noticed the smell of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. After consent to search the vehicle, the deputy found a small amount of marijuana inside a baggie that was inside a glass container in the console. Ashanti Elise Oates was charged with driving while license was suspended, reckless driving and speeding and was booked into the Chattooga County Jail.
Summerville Main Street will host a Trains & Tracks Expo at the Historic Summerville Depot on Saturday and Sunday, November 4-5. Hours of operation for the event on Saturday, November 4 will be 10:00 am-3:00 pm and Sunday, November 5 from 11:00am-3:00pm. Admission is free to the public.
