UGA Beef Specialist Jason Duggin will be the featured speaker at this month’s Chattooga Young Farmers Meeting.
The stage is set for the ultimate chili cook off on Saturday, Nov. 4 as 26 teams will vie for the title of Rome’s best Chili at the Chili Fest Cook Off presented by Georgia Power at Ridge Ferry Park.
Today is the last day to vote early ahead of Election Day next Tuesday. Elections are taking place in Summerville, Trion and Menlo. Early voting will run from 9 AM until 5 PM today at each city hall in each municipality. If you plan to vote early, be sure to bring a picture ID when you come to vote. Election Day will be Tuesday, November 7th and polls will be open from 7 AM until 7 PM.

Georgia Highlands College (GHC) is waiving its $30 application fee through the month of November to help reduce barriers for those seeking to attain a college education. Called “No Fee November,” this opportunity is available to all student types, from high school seniors to transfer students to non-traditional working adults and beyond.
The November meeting for the Chattooga County Chamber of Commerce will feature Habitat for Humanity. The faith-based, Christian organization’s local chapter serves Chattooga, Floyd and Polk Counties and builds houses for those who might not otherwise achieve the dream of home ownership. Betsy Allgood with the Coosa Valley Chapter of Habitat for Humanity will be the featured speaker. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 14th at Noon at the Chattooga County Civic Center on Highway 48 in Summerville, across from Truist Bank. Those planning to attend should RSVP. Two Georgia Northwestern Technical College (GNTC) students have received the Gene Haas Scholarship, which rewards academic excellence and provides financial support for students working toward a degree, diploma, or certificate in the Precision Machining and Manufacturing program.
Summerville Police responded to a call on Bittings Avenue on Halloween about an act of vandalism. When the officer arrived on the scene, he spoke with the complainant who said that someone had strewn toilet paper in the trees in her yard. While she was cleaning up the mess, she noticed that the screens had been cut on the windows of her house. The complainant said that she had security cameras, but they were not in operation at the time of the vandalism. The complainant requested extra patrols for the area.
A fifty-eight-year-old Summerville man was arrested shortly after midnight on Thursday after he got into an altercation with another man. According to Summerville Police, Horace Emmanuel Wooten was in a verbal argument with the other man and the the argument turned physical when Wooten pushed the other man to the ground. The altercation took place on Frank Street in Summerville. Wooten was arrested and booked into the Chattooga County Jail on charges of disorderly conduct.
