Most calls from Georgians to a national mental health crisis hotline launched last year have come from rural areas of the state, particularly counties in South Georgia, a state mental health official said Thursday.
If you are a voter in the City of Summerville, the City of Menlo or the Town of Trion, you have until Friday to vote early in the municipal elections. Election Day is next Tuesday, November 7th. You can vote early at your respective city hall from 9 AM – 5 PM through Friday of this week. Be sure to bring a picture ID when you come to vote. Voting on a Election Day will take place from 7 AM until 7 PM.
Last Thursday, the Georgia Department of Labor released unemployment rates for all counties in Georgia. The unemployment rate in Chattooga County fell from 4.4% in August to 3.7% in September. This time last year, Chattooga County’s unemployment rate was 4.1%. Statewide, Georgia’s unemployment rate rose slightly last month to 3.4% from 3.3%, the state Department of Labor reported Thursday. Still, joblessness in the Peach State in September was four-tenths of a percentage point lower than the national average.
Rome Police received a report about a missing firearm last week. According to a report from the Rome Police Department, a man told police that he removed a 9 mm pistol while he was using the restroom at the East Rome Walmart. He then forgot to pick the pistol back up when he was finished. He didn’t realize he had left the pistol until he had already left the store. The man called the store, but no one was able to locate the pistol. The missing firearm was valued at $500.

As October comes to a close, the American Red Cross urges blood and platelet donors to make and keep donation appointments now to help hospitals restock blood products for patients ahead of the holiday season. Donors of all blood types are needed, especially type O blood donors and those giving platelets to help recover from a significant shortfall in donations throughout late summer and fall.
