High school students in the northwest Georgia community had a chance to explore various career pathways and educational opportunities during Georgia Northwestern Technical College’s (GNTC) Career Preview Day on Thursday, Oct. 19, at the Floyd County Campus in Rome.
Summerville Main Street has scheduled their “Victorian Christmas” celebration in downtown Summerville for the first weekend in December. The event will feature a live Nativity, live musical performances, contests and kids games and cookies and milk with Santa. There will be a Christmas Market on the East Washington Streetscape and food, retail shopping and crafts in downtown Summerville. The Summerville Victorian Christmas will be Saturday, December 2nd from 11 AM until 5 PM.
Today is your last chance for the Halloween Hayride at Sloppy Floyd State Park. The hayrides will be available from 1 PM until 5 PM this afternoon. There is a $5 park pass required and there will be a free shuttle to the hayride. The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 5-12. Children four and under are free!
The Chattooga Indians wrapped up their season with a win over the Coosa Eagles at the Little Big Horn. The final score was 16-10. The Trion Bulldogs defeated the Armuchee Indians on the road in Armuchee with a final score of 55-7. Trion’s win over Armuchee puts them 10-0 on the season and they are now headed for the region championship against Darlington next Friday night at home. The Chattooga County Young Farmers will host their 9th Annual Pig Project Show and Auction Monday, November 6th at the Chattooga County Agricultural Center. The show will begin at 6 pm and the auction will follow.
AdventHealth Redmond recently named Dave Tomey, MD, as Chief Medical Officer (CMO). Dr. Tomey will replace outgoing CMO Julie Barnes, who retired in August. Dr. Tomey will step into the role on November 6.
The Pumpkin Palooza and Summerville-Trion Optimist Club Candy Walk will be held today in downtown Summerville. East Washington Street will be closed off from 6 AM until 3 PM today for the event. Also, entries to East Washington Street from Economy Street will be closed. There will be a pumpkin decorating contest and a costume contest for the kids. Scouts from Pack 38 enjoyed a beautiful Saturday at Camp Sidney Dew in Armuchee on October 21. Scouts attended the Spookoree event hosted by the Northwest GA Council.
Scouts enjoyed hayrides, field games, a STEM station, BB Range, Archery Range, sling shot, Gaga Ball, arts and crafts activities and much more.
It was a fun filled day for the whole family at Camp Sidney Dew.
The Chattooga County Registrars Office reported on Friday morning that there have been only sixty-eight voters who have voted early in the upcoming November 7th municipal elections. Voters in Trion, Summerville and Menlo are going to the polls to vote on local municipal offices. As of Friday morning, nine people had voted early in Menlo, thirty-eight in Summerville and twenty-one in Trion. The last day for early voting will be next Friday, November 3rd. Voters can vote today as well. Voters should go to their local city hall to vote between 9 AM and 5 PM today. Be sure to bring a picture ID when you come to vote.
