Summerville Police arrested a thirty-eight-year-old man and his seventeen-year-old son on Saturday on alcohol-related charges.  According to a report from the Summerville Police Department, Lorenzo Johnson reportedly admitted to telling his teenage son to “get a beer” from someone else’s box of beer.  The teenager, identified as Izarius Mobbs, tested positive for alcohol consumption after a portable breath test was administered by police.  Johnson was charged with public intoxication and providing alcohol to a minor and Mobbs was charged with underage consumption of alcohol.

A guilty plea to aggravated assault charges has landed a forty-seven-year-old Chattooga County man with a four-year prison sentence.  Richard Eugene Milstead of a Farmersville Road, Summerville address was sentenced in Chattooga County Superior Court to serve four years in prison and one year of probation on the charges.  He has also been ordered to pay a $1,716 fine in connection with the charges.  Milstead has a long history of arrests in both Chattooga and Floyd Counties on various drug charges and terroristic threats and acts charges.

Late last month the Georgia State Patrol arrested a Walker County teenager in Chattooga County after he was found to be driving under the influence.  According to a report released this past week, the incident happened on Saturday, September 23rd shortly after 11 PM near Highway 114 and Lyerly Dam Road.  A state trooper noticed a tag light out on the vehicle and then noticed the vehicle pulling into a private lot to avoid emergency lights from an unrelated incident.  The trooper initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, identified as eighteen-year-old Lance Kadin Maynard of LaFayette.  The trooper detected the smell of alcohol and Maynard admitted to having drank alcohol and consuming marijuana prior to the traffic stop.  Maynard was arrested and charged with DUI, tag light violation, possession of marijuana and an open container of alcohol and was booked into the Chattooga County Jail.

Georgia Power is bringing an electric vehicle Community Charging Station to the City of Summerville.  Currently, the only other option for EV owners to use a public facility to charge their vehicles in Chattooga County is located at James H. “Sloppy” Floyd State Park.  The new EV Community Charging Station will be located near Summerville City Hall on Georgia Avenue.  The city is providing the space for Georgia Power to install the charging station and says it will take up about two parking spaces at the parking lot adjacent to City Hall.  The next nearest EV charging stations are located to the south at Winshape Retreat in Floyd County and to the north at Key West Inn in LaFayette.  Georgia Power says, ” As the electric vehicle market grows, we want to make sure you can drive electric all across the state of Georgia and beyond with confidence”.

The Coroner’s Office in Cherokee County, Alabama confirmed that a student from the University of Georgia died in a fatal accident on Saturday, October 14th at Cherokee Rock Village, located off Cherokee County Road 70 near Sand Rock, Alabama.  The coroner’s office says that the woman was rock climbing at the time of the accident, which was shortly after noon, Alabama time. Nineteen-year-old Yutung Zhang was a sophomore at UGA and a resident of Minnesota.  Next of kin was notified by the Cherokee County Coroner’s Office.

A thirty-year-old Chattooga County woman was arrested in Floyd County on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol over the past weekend.  According to arrest records from the Floyd County Jail, Erin Bianca Brown of Menlo was arrested on Saturday near the intersection of Turner McCall and Avenue A in Rome.  Brown was additionally charged by the Rome Police Department with failure to obey a traffic signal.
