Chattooga “Branding” Campaign To Be Discussed At Chamber Event

A meeting will be held on Wednesday of this week for the public to have input on a branding and marketing campaign that is being planned for Chattooga County.  The event is being sponsored by the Chattooga County Chamber of Commerce.  The campaign is meant to “market the entire county as a cultural and outdoor recreation destination”.  There will be a presentation at 10 AM at the Chattooga County Civic Center on Highway 48 in Summerville, across from Truist Bank.  The chamber will have display boards and people can drop in throughout the day, until 5:30 PM, and fill out a brief survey form about the branding campaign.  Anyone with any questions can contact Chamber Director Cindy Rivers McGraw at 706-857-4033.

Georgia’s New State Economist Starts Work Friday

Dr. Robert “Bob” Buschman will take over as Georgia’s State Economist, effective this Friday, September 1. Dr. Buschman currently serves as Interim Director of the Public Finance Research Cluster at Georgia State University.  He was just appointed to the position last week by Georgia Governor Brian Kemp.

Armuchee Woman Charged With Intimidation Of Elderly Man

A fifty-four-year-old Armuchee woman was arrested late last week after Floyd County Police say that she stole a ninety-one-year-old man’s garage door opener.  Police said that the elderly man was afraid that the woman would return to his house and rob him.  Candace Marie Camp was charged with exploitation and intimidation of elderly person, theft by taking and a probation charge.  She was booked into the Floyd County Jail on Friday of last week.

2023 Chattooga County Fair Wraps Up

The Chattooga County Agricultural Fair wrapped up on Sunday evening, and fair organizers say that once again this year, the fair was a success.  Hot temperatures might have affected the crowd slightly, but overall attendance was good for the fair.  The Chattooga County Agricultural Fair was re-organized in 2014 and has continued to be one of the biggest events in the county over the past nine years.  Planning for the 2024 Chattooga County Agricultural Fair will get underway in the next few weeks and the fair council will release a full report of this years fair in the upcoming days.

Chattooga County Posts Unemployment Rate Of 3.9%

Chattooga County’s unemployment rate has remained steady at 3.9% for several months.  New numbers were released last Thursday from the Georgia Department of Labor for the month of July.  Two counties in Northwest Georgia have unemployment rates over 4%.  Whitfield is at 4.2% and Murray County at 4.1%. The lowest unemployment rate in the region is in Dade County – with a rate of 2.6%.  Statewide, the unemployment rate stands at 3.2% – with record numbers of people employed and plenty of jobs available.
