


Here is the latest arrest report from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office for Wednesday, August 16, 2023:

A Summerville man was cited for a leash law violation after being warned to keep his animal contained. According to a report from the Summerville Police Department, on Wednesday of last week a McGinnis Circle man reported that a dog had chewed up the cushion on his motorized wheel chair. Police had located the owner of the dog and issued him a warning about the dog running loose. The next day, the same complainant called police after the same dog chewed up a cushion on a chair on the man’s porch. Police issued a citation to Martin Greene for leash law violation.

A thirty-four-year-old man was arrested for DUI for drugs while parked in a church parking lot in Trion. According to the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy spotted a vehicle parked at Solid Rock Baptist Church last Thursday and pulled in to investigate. The deputy had to wake the driver up to talk to him. The driver told the deputy that he was so tired he had to pull into the church parking lot to sleep. The deputy asked the man why he was so tired and if he had any medical issues or had taken anything to make him so sleepy. The driver said that he didn’t have any medical issues but the deputy could tell that the man was under the influence of some substance making him drowsy. After a field sobriety check, Steven Matthews Cline was arrested for DUI for drugs and was booked into the Chattooga County Jail.

Fair time is almost here and once again this year, Chattooga County Young Farmers will be selling ice cream at the Chattooga County Agricultural Fair. The ice cream is always a big hit at the fair and serves as a fundraiser for the local Young Farmers Chapter. A twenty-nine-year-old Summerville man was jailed this week in Floyd County after he was charged with hit and run and leaving the scene of an accident. Branden Scott Barnett was additionally charged with following to closely and was booked into the Floyd County Jail on Monday. Barnett was released from the Floyd County Jail on Bond.

A fifty-year-old man was stopped for speeding on Highway 27 near Taylor’s Ridge on Saturday evening and was subsequently arrested for DUI. According to a report from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, a “be on the lookout” call was placed about a vehicle speeding over Taylor’s Ridge. A deputy clocked the vehicle doing 92 miles-per-hour near Sturdivant Estates. After performing a traffic stop, the deputy believed that the driver was driving under the influence of alcohol. The driver admitted to having consumed alcohol. After a field sobriety test, Christopher Allan Brooks was charged with DUI and booked into the Chattooga County Jail.
