Man Arrested For DUI After Being Stopped For Speeding

A fifty-year-old man was stopped for speeding on Highway 27 near Taylor’s Ridge on Saturday evening and was subsequently arrested for DUI.  According to a report from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, a “be on the lookout” call was placed about a vehicle speeding over Taylor’s Ridge.  A deputy clocked the vehicle doing 92 miles-per-hour near Sturdivant Estates.  After performing a traffic stop, the deputy believed that the driver was driving under the influence of alcohol.  The driver admitted to having consumed alcohol. After a field sobriety test, Christopher Allan Brooks was charged with DUI and booked into the Chattooga County Jail.

Animal Hoarding Case In Walker County

Authorities have charged a seventy-year-old Walker County woman with animal cruelty after finding more than 100 animals, including dogs chained to trees, animal feces inside her residence, and dozens of cats stacked in crates, including one that was deceased.

Menlo PTO Meeting This Evening

The Menlo PTO will be holding a meeting this evening at the Lawrence Center for additional parking due to ongoing construction at Menlo Elementary School.  The Lawrence Center is located at 71 Edison Street in Menlo.  The Menlo PTO will be looking to fill the office of secretary.  Anyone interested in the position is asked to contact Susan Howard.  Also at the meeting, Title I budget and the ongoing construction at Menlo Elementary School will be discussed. All parent and guardians of Menlo Elementary School students are encouraged to attend. The meeting gets underway at 5 PM.

Multiple DUI Arrests Over The Weekend

Local law enforcement arrested several for driving under the influence over the past weekend.  The Trion Police Department, Summerville Police Department, the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia State Patrol all reported DUI arrests in the county between Friday and Monday morning.

Man Leaving City Court Steals Wallet From Car In Courthouse Parking Lot

A woman reported to Summerville Police that her wallet had been stolen out of her vehicle while she was parked at the Courthouse Annex last Tuesday.  According to a report released yesterday by the Summerville Police Department, a responding officer was able to obtain video footage of a man reaching into the vehicle and stealing the woman’s wallet.  The report goes on to say that the suspect had just left city court, shortly before the theft happened. The suspect in the video was identified as fifty-two-year-old David Lee Shepherd of a State Street, Summerville address. The incident was turned over to an investigator.

Gas Prices Beginning To Inch Down

Georgia’s average gas price is finally on the decline at the pump compared to a week ago. Georgia drivers are now paying an average price of $3.63 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline (subject to change overnight).
