No Big Jackpot Winner In Wednesday’s Powerball Drawing

No one matched all the numbers in Wednesday night’s Powerball drawing that was worth an estimated $546 million.  There were three $1 million winners with one person each in Ohio, New York and Florida matching the first five numbers but failing to match the Powerball.  The winning numbers were  17, 24, 48, 62, 68 with Powerball 23. The Power Play option was 2x.  Saturday’s jackpot is now worth an estimated $590 million.

Single-Vehicle Accident In Lyerly Results In Injury

A single-vehicle accident on Highway 114 between Chattoogaville and Lyerly  sent a woman to the hospital on Wednesday evening.  According to the Georgia State Patrol Post in Rome, a vehicle was traveling eastbound on Highway 114 near Ragland Road, and left the roadway and crashed into some trees.  Troopers say that a female was transported to the hospital with injuries.  WZQZ News will have more information when an accident report is completed by the Georgia State Patrol.

Man With Dementia Found Thursday Morning

A seventy-two-year-old man from the Holland Community, near Lyerly, went missing on Wednesday evening.  Neighbors and family members were concerned because the man and his wife both have dementia, put out a plea on social media saying that Wallace Nicholson went missing around 7:30 PM.  Law enforcement were notified and began searching for Mr. Nicholson in the Holland area on Highway 100.   Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader notified local media shortly after 4 AM on Thursday morning that Mr. Nicholson was located.

Georgia Gas Prices Decreased For Independence Day Travelers

Pickup Bed Cover Stolen In Trion

A Hammond Street, Trion woman reported the theft of a pickup truck bed cover to the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office last Friday.  According to a report from the sheriff’s office, the woman told a responding deputy that she went to take her dog out that morning and noticed that the bed cover off a 2016 GMC Canyon was missing. The complainant said that she had no idea why someone would want to steal the bed cover off the truck.  According to the report, the neighbor’s have security cameras that might be able to identify who stole the bed cover.  The incident was turned over to an investigator.

Burglary Investigation On Back Berryton Road

The Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a burglary that was reported on Back Berryton Road on June 28th.  According to a report released yesterday, a responding deputy spoke with Aaron Strickland who said that two women entered his home while he was gone to a funeral and stole several items, including a television.  A friend of Strickland’s was at the house at the time of the burglary and was reportedly in a back room of the house while the burglars made off with the items.  Strickland and the witness were able to give the responding deputy names of the two suspects.  The incident was turned over to an investigator.

GBI Statement On Death Of Georgia Deputy

The GBI is investigating an incident that led to the death of Crisp County Sheriff’s Deputy Tyee Browne, age 26, of Macon County, GA, and an officer involved shooting.
