Chattooga Youth Football Camp

Chattooga High School will have a youth football camp on Tuesday, June 27th and Wednesday June 28th at the Little Big Horn Stadium.  The youth football camp is open for children ages six to eleven and will be held from 5:30 – 7:30 PM each evening.  The camp is FREE! and a t-shirt will be provided.

New UGA Study On Restricted Eating & Diabetes

A new study from the University of Georgia shows that fewer meals, or intermittent fasting, can help prevent and manage diabetes.  Cases of diabetes have been on the rise in the state and here in Chattooga County, statistics show the rate of diabetes is higher than the state or national average.

Trion & Summerville Approve Donations To the Chattooga County Ag Fair

Both the Town of Trion and the City of Summerville have approved donations to the Chattooga County Agricultural Fair.  The Town of Trion Council increased their donation to $5,500 for this year’s fair, while the City of Summerville donated the same amount they did last year, which was $5,000.  The Chattooga County Agricultural Fair was re-established in Chattooga County in 2014.  This year’s fair will be held August 24th – August 27th on the grounds of the Chattooga County Agricultural Building and Summerville Middle School.

Northwest Georgia Man Sentenced To Life In Prison

A Floyd County judge has sentenced a Northwest Georgia man to life in prison after a disturbing case of abuse and sexual crimes against children was presented in court.  Fifty-four-year-old Dustin Lee Dowdy of Rockmart was found guilty of molesting and abusing multiple children in his care, some under the age of ten.  The charges against Dowdy included the molestation of young family members. Dowdy will have to serve 30 years in prison before being considered for parole.  Dowdy is facing similar charges out of Polk County.

Boat Tied To Tree Was Stolen

On June 12, 2023 a boat was found tied to a tree near the intersection of Rocky Hollow Road and Saddle Club Road in Summerville.  Pictures of the boat circulated on social media which prompted the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office to investigate.  It turns out, the boat was reported stolen out of Whitfield County.  The boat was impounded by the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office, according to a report that was released last week by the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office.

Father’s Day Is Today

Father’s Day is being celebrated today.  Retailers estimate that $29.3 billion will be spent on fathers for this year’s celebration.
