Memorial Day Closings

Today is Memorial Day, the day set aside to remember those who gave their lives for our country.  From 1868 to 1970, Memorial Day was observed on May 30th.  That changed in 1971 when Congress  changed its observance to the last Monday in May.  It is a Federal holiday which means the post office and banks will be closed.  Also, all federal, state, county and governmental offices will be closed.  Both the Town of Trion and the City of Summerville say that if you have an emergency today, you should call Chattooga 911.
