A twenty-seven-year-old woman was arrested after shoplifting around $55 worth of cosmetics from Walmart. According to a report released by the sheriff’s office this week, Haley Nicole Nichols was seen leaving Walmart last Wednesday without paying for the makeup. The suspect left the store on foot but was detained at the Murphy Gas Station near Walmart by a deputy. Nichols was charged with shoplifting and several outstanding warrants and was booked into the Chattooga County Jail.

Farms hold a central role in the heritage of our state, having formed the economic, cultural, and family foundation for generations of Georgians. Some farms have been continuously operating for over 100 years and deserve recognition for their historical importance. This year the Georgia Centennial Farm Program celebrates its 30th year of honoring the contributions of farm families throughout Georgia.

A Menlo man contacted the sheriff’s office after receiving repeated messages from his estranged partner. Tommy Cooley, Jr. told a responding deputy that he had taken out a TPO (temporary protection order) against the woman, but she continued to leave him voice messages and to have contact with him in violation of the TPO. The complainant played nine different voice mails from the woman for the deputy. He also showed where he had text the woman telling her to stop contacting him, as she was violating the protection order. The deputy noted that the power was shut off at the man’s residence and he was using a Coleman stove to cook on and a lantern for light. The complainant told him that his ex had the power shut off at the residence. The deputy gathered information from the man and turned the issue over to an investigator with the sheriff’s office.
