Cancer Navigators’ annual benefit run\walk culminates this year with an in-person 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk on Sunday, April 30, at 2 p.m. at the Barron Stadium track in Rome. The annual Daisy Drop will take place that day at 3 p.m. on the Chief John Ross Memorial Bridge at the Town Green.

Along with all 50 states and U.S. territories, the State of Georgia has resumed checking eligibility for all Medicaid and PeachCare for Kids® members for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Medicaid members can find their individual redetermination month and information about the process in their Gateway account at gateway.ga.gov. Ducky Derby Coming Up May 13

The Summerville Main Street Ducky Derby will be making a comeback on Saturday, May 13 for a fun race down Summerville Town Creek! In addition, classic car and truck enthusiasts will enjoy the North Georgia Cruisers Classic Car Cruise In on East Washington Street. Event hours are 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. with a variety of food and craft vendors on site at the Summerville Depot. The rubber duck race is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. Vendor registration is open through Summerville Main Street until May 9.

Illegal Window Tint Lands Man In Jail

Illegal window tinting landed a man in jail last week after a deputy noticed the vehicle near the intersection of Welcome Hill and Old Justice Road.  The deputy initiated a traffic stop and when he went to speak with the driver, knew that the driver didn’t have a valid license.  Joshua Ables was arrested for window tint violation and driving on suspended or revoked license and was booked into the Chattooga County Jail on Thursday.  Georgia law says: No window tinting on front windshield. On windows to either side of driver or in back of vehicle, the light transmission restriction may not be less than 32%, plus or minus 3% or increase light reflectance more than 20%.

Deputies Find Bag Of Drugs At Check Point

Sheriff’s deputies were conducting a check point last week on Penn Bridge Road when a deputy spotted a pouch with a label that said “Roarsome”, laying on the roadway.  When deputies investigated what was inside the bag, they found suspected methamphetamine and marijuana inside the pouch.  The sheriff’s department says that “it currently unknown” who the bag belongs to or where it came from .  The bag of illegal drugs was taken back to the sheriff’s office and locked in the evidence locker.

Armuchee Man Arrested After Scene At DFCS Office

A twenty-eight-year-old Armuchee man was arrested on Monday afternoon at the Floyd County DFCS office.  According to Floyd County Police, Zachary Clayton Lankford was charged with felony making terroristic threats and misdemeanor criminal trespass after he caused a scene at the office, breaking a vase and threatening to kill a Division of Children and Families officer at the Georgia Department of Community Supervision facility. He was being held without bond as of Tuesday.

Georgia Man Sentenced To Life In Prison For Alabama Knife Attack

A Northwest Georgia man was sentenced in Cherokee County, Alabama to life in prison for the 2021 knife attack on his wife in Centre.  Joseph Shane Langston was found guilty by a jury in Cherokee County for second-degree domestic violence.
