

Here is the latest arrest report from the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office for Thursday, April 20, 2023:

Fifth-grade students from every school in the county visited the Chattooga County Ag building for “Ag Day” on Tuesday of this week. The trip is a tradition for fifth-graders and exposes them to Georgia’s number one industry – agriculture. It also shows the students the vital roll that agriculture plays in Chattooga County and Northwest Georgia. The event is hands-on and allows the students to ask questions and learn more about agriculture here at home and across the state. There were around 300 students that attended the event on Tuesday.

For the second time in recent years, Judith Ann Neelley will appear before the Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles, but even if she is granted parole in Alabama, Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader says she is facing a life sentence in Georgia that was handed down in Chattooga County Superior Court.

Governor Brian P. Kemp on Tuesday signed two bills that strengthen Georgia’s No. 1 industry at a ceremony in Bainbridge, accompanied by First Lady Marty Kemp, Agriculture Commissioner Tyler Harper, members of the General Assembly, and leaders from the state’s agriculture community. HB 545, carried by Rep. Chas Cannon and Sen. Sam Watson, creates the Agricultural Commodity Commission for Citrus Fruits, and SB 220, carried by Sen. Russ Goodman and Rep. Robert Dickey, creates the Georgia Farmland Conservation Fund.

The flooding that hit Chattooga County last year on Labor Day weekend was devastating for a Berryton church. The water from Raccoon Creek was up so high that it flooded the building at Berryton Bible Mission, leaving the inside of the church severely damaged – damaged so much, the church members would not be able to use the building any longer.

Rome police are continuing to search for a person suspected of shooting a 15-year-old last week in an incident at Banty Jones Park.

McDonald’s announced a menu change this week – in fact a new way to prepare some of their existing offerings – and with the announcement, they are re-introducing The Hamburgler to a new generation of McDonald’s customers.
