Judge Puts Attorney In Jail After Courtroom Scene

On Thursday, Chattooga County Superior Court Judge Kristina Graham charged an attorney with contempt of court.  WZQZ News has confirmed with the Chattooga County Sheriff’s Office that the charges were brought against attorney Jim Oxford.  Oxford was reportedly representing clients in Chattooga County Superior Court and his behavior in the courtroom caused concerns for Judge Graham which prompted the charges of contempt of court.  Oxford was jailed for five days, according to sources.

A twenty-five-year-old Griffin, Georgia woman had been arrested for allegedly stealing a Kubota excavator valued at $28,000 from the Home Depot on Hicks Drive in Rome.

Cedar Bluff Man Wanted After Striking Deputy With Vehicle

According to Cherokee County, Alabama Sheriff Jeff Shaver, deputies responded to a residence on County Road 585 in Cedar Bluff on Wednesday evening, after receiving a 911 call regarding a domestic altercation.

Drowning Reported In Lyerly

UPDATE 2:14 PM – From Sheriff Mark Schrader: The victim from the earlier call in Oakhill has been identified as Jeremy Shane Deberry, age 39 of a Mosely Spring Road, Lyerly address.  It appears that Mr. Deberry was trimming grass around a body of water, when he collapsed into the water.  He was found by the property owner.

Chattooga County Sheriff Mark Schrader said this morning that emergency workers are on the scene in the Oakhill Road, Lyerly area due to a drowning accident.  The sheriff says that an unidentified male was doing yard work and has been confirmed as the victim.  More information will be released, pending family notification, according to the sheriff.

Annual Registration Season Sees Increase of 29,000 Corporate Filings in 2023

Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger announced a record-breaking Annual Registration Season for the Corporations Division of the Secretary of State’s Office. The Annual Registration Season, which runs from January 1 – April 1, concluded with over 784,000 annual registration filings, marking an increase of more than 29,000 filings over last year’s filing period.
