Tax Deadline Is April 18 – Not April 15 This Year

Taxes are due Tuesday, April 18, instead of the usual April 15 because Tax Day can’t occur on holidays or weekends, giving Americans an extra three days to file their 2022 taxes. Additionally, Washington, D.C., is celebrating Emancipation Day, the anniversary of the district ending slavery in 1862, on Monday, pushing the tax deadline to Tuesday. Taxpayers who are granted an extension have until October 16 to file. Some places affected by natural disasters like tornadoes and flooding have already received extensions including some people in Alabama and Georgia,  Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi, New York, California.

Trion School Online Enrollment Deadline Coming UP

The deadline for online enrollment for Trion City Schools is coming up on April 28th.  The Trion Board of Education has voted to raise tuition rates for those that live outside the Trion town limits.  The tuition rate is currently $150 per student, and that will go up to $200 per student for the 2023-2024 school year.  However, the family tuition rate, for those with multiple students in the school system, will still be capped at $450.  Trion School Supt. Dr. Phil Williams suggested to the board that the family tuition rate be capped at $450.  It is the first time the Trion Board of Education has raised tuition rates in nine years.  Higher insurance rates for employees and rising costs were cited as the reason for the increase in tuition rates.
