Ribbon Cutting At Blossoms Tomorrow

A ribbon cutting will be held at Blossoms on Economy Street tomorrow.  Blossoms is a child development center that has activities and classes for children.  You can find out more about the business on their Facebook Page.  The ribbon cutting will be held at 11 AM at 221 Economy Street in Summerville and is sponsored by Summerville Main Street and the Chattooga County Chamber of Commerce.

Calhoun Man Arrested After Pursuit Through Four Counties

A Calhoun man was arrested on Saturday after a high-speed chase through four counties.  Cpl. Kieth Flowers with the Georgia State Patrol told WZQZ News that the pursuit began when a state trooper noticed a yellow sports bike traveling at a high rate of speed on Georgia Highway 53 in Gordon County.

Night Of Champions – Trion Baseball

Legislation Dedicated To Prevent Extinctions

New bipartisan legislation in the Senate will dedicate up to $1.4 billion each year to locally-led efforts to prevent extinctions and help wildlife thrive for future generations. The Recovering America’s Wildlife Act will send roughly $27.4 million to Georgia each year.

Chattooga Historical Society Meeting April 16, 2023

The Chattooga County Historical Society will hold a meeting on Sunday, April 16th at the historic Summerville Depot at 2 PM.  Gene Espy with The Summerville News will be the featured speaker.  Mr. Espy will be sharing with those in attendance about the long history of the local newspaper and the Espy family’s involvement with The Summerville News.  Everyone is welcome to attend the meetings of the Chattooga County Historical Society.

Summerville Moves Forward With New Public Works Building Plans

The Summerville City Council is moving forward with plans to build a new public works facility on property owned by the city near the Summerville Industrial Park off Highway 100.  The new public works building is expected to cost over $68,000.  The move was prompted by flood damage at the aging building that currently houses Summerville Public Works in downtown Summerville.  At a meeting scheduled for tomorrow evening at Summerville City Hall, the council will be looking to approve paying Carter & Sloope Engineers over $10,000 for site work planning for the new facility.  Tomorrow’s meeting gets underway at 5 PM.  There will be a question and answer session for the public at 4:30 PM.

USDA Workshop On Pandemic Revenue Loss

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) Georgia State Executive Director, Arthur Tripp, invites agricultural producers to attend a workshop to learn about revenue loss assistance available through two new programs, the Emergency Relief Program (ERP) Phase Two and the Pandemic Assistance Revenue Program (PARP).
