AMI Cemetery Seeks Donations

The AMI Cemetery in Menlo is asking the community for donations for the upkeep of the cemetery, located on Jamestown Road just outside the city limits of Menlo.  The cemetery is maintained by volunteers and donations.  Anyone wishing to donate can mail contributions to Sue Gilley at PO Box 25, Menlo, GA 30731.  Also, people with loved ones buried at AMI Cemetery are being asked to not use glass flower vases or glass containers of any kind in the cemetery.

Ag Day April 18th For County’s Fifth Grade Students

Ag Day 2022 at the Chattooga County Agricultural Building

Fifth-grade students from both the Trion City Schools and the Chattooga County School systems will be brought to the Chattooga County Agricultural Building to learn more about how agriculture works and what it means to the United States, Georgia, Chattooga County and the world during the 2023 Ag Day event that will be held on Tuesday, April 18th.  The fifth graders will have the opportunity to see what agriculture means to our community and learn more about Georgia’s number one industry.  Ag Day is held each year in Chattooga County with over 300 students expected to attend.

Local Government Offices Closed For Good Friday

Many local governmental offices will be closed today for Good Friday.  The Chattooga County Commissioner’s Office and county offices will be closed today; however, the Chattooga County transfer station and convenience centers will be open.  Also, the City of Summerville, the City of Menlo, the Town of Trion, and the Town of Lyerly all confirmed with WZQZ News that their offices would be closed.  Should you have an emergency when local governmental offices are closed, you should call Chattooga 911.  Banks and the post office will be open today.

Summerville Woman Reports Debit Card Fraud

A Summerville woman reported a case of debit card fraud to the Summerville Police Department on Monday of this week.  The woman told a responding officer that someone had used her debit card to purchase airline tickets totaling over $1,000.  According to the report from the police department, while the complainant was on the phone with her bank to dispute the charges, someone attempted to transfer $1,300 from her savings account to her checking account.  The Summerville Police Department is investigating the incident.

Chattooga Reports Two COVID Cases

In the latest numbers from the Georgia Department of Public Health, Chattooga County saw an increase in COVID-19 cases over the past week, with two cases being reported.  The overall number of COVID-19 cases in the Northwest Georgia area continues to be down, however there were three COVID-19 deaths reported in Floyd County over the past week and one death reported in Gordon County.  Dr. Gary Voccio with the Northwest Georgia Department of Public Health said this week that while COVID-19 cases are down for the overall population, the positive cases being reported are hitting the area’s senior citizens the hardest.
