Monday Accident Involving Walker County Sheriff’s Patrol Car

A Walker County Sheriff’s Deputy was involved in an accident on Highway 27 on Monday evening, shortly before 5 PM.  First responders were routing traffic through the parking lot near Little Caesar’s Pizza while law enforcement worked the accident that involved at least one other vehicle.  WZQZ News will have more information on the accident when a report is released by the Georgia State Patrol.

Solar Power Advocates Push For Third-Party Provider Legislation

Solar power advocates in Georgia are renewing a push for legislation that would let Georgia Power customers buy electricity from third-party providers of solar energy. A bill that would open the door to so-called community solar projects in the Peach State failed to gain traction in the General Assembly during this years legislative session. However, the state House of Representatives created an ad hoc committee to consider the proposal this summer and fall.

Man Arrested On Drug Charges After Traffic Stop

In a routine traffic stop, local law enforcement made a drug arrest after a vehicle was observed driving with its headlights off. The incident occurred around 9:14 PM on November 16th, when a Summerville Police Officer noted a dark gray car passing by on Sixth Avenue, which proceeded to make a right turn onto Highland Avenue. Upon stopping the vehicle, it was discovered that the license plate did not match the car, raising immediate suspicion.

Georgia’s Labor Commissioner Has Passed Away

Georgia Labor Commissioner Bruce Thompson passed away Sunday at the age of 59 after battling pancreatic cancer. Thompson took office in 2023 and inherited a struggling Department of Labor. He uncovered $105 million in mishandled funds and continued working despite his illness.

Lifetime Achievement Award For Chattooga County Coroner Earle Rainwater

Chattooga County Coroner Earle Rainwater was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Georgia Coroner’s Association at the organization’s fall meeting held in Warner Robbins over the weekend.  In presenting the award on Saturday, Rainwater was recognized by his peers statewide for his 48 years of service as Coroner of Chattooga County.

Cold Front Approaching Northwest Georgia: Rain Expected For Thanksgiving

After a nice day today, a cold front is moving into northwest Georgia tonight and into Tuesday, bringing increased chances of showers but rainfall totals are not expected to be significant. Weak high pressure will briefly dry things out on Tuesday and Wednesday before showers and thunderstorms return on Thanksgiving Day. Models show disagreement on the strength and track of the surface low associated with the moisture, but a wet beginning to Thanksgiving is looking likely. Rain chances will taper off on Thursday afternoon. Rainfall amounts are uncertain but could be up to 1-1.5″ in Northwest Georgia. Breezy conditions are expected on Friday, with drier and cooler air moving in for the weekend. So, temperatures will be warmer before Thanksgiving, with highs in the mid-50s to 60s, dropping to the mid-40s to 50s afterward. Lows will also fluctuate between the mid-30s to 50s until the weekend, when we could see the coldest temperatures of the season, with overnight lows expected in the mid-20s.

Chattooga County Unemployment Jumps To 5.8% In October
